They added 3 dollars to the advertised price because I didn't have a membership which cost 28 dollars
The personnel is really polite, is located in the Upper West Side and is just a block away from the Subway (Line 1) so, if you arrive at Penn Station it's perfect. The bathroom and the rooms are clean and you can also buy yourself something to eat cheap in it. There are also great free activities for those who visit the city for the first time.
They don't lend you a lock for your locker, you have to purchase one at the front desk.
Location 5 minutes from central park and 103 rd street subway. Room was clean and bathroom facilities modern and clean. Staff were helpful and the local area provided several reasonably priced restaurants if you didnt want to cook. Well worth the money and I will stay there again in the future
Nothing negative other Than. Possibly the worlds slowest lift.
cheap accommodation close to a Subway
Big hostel with all the facilities you need. Nice place to meet people. They have a great tour guide named Ed, I took the Bronx tour and can really recommend it to you.
The hostel is very clean, it is well equipped. It offers many possibility for guided tours for low price. The rooms were nice, and the bed was very comfortable.
A few time I had to wait longer for the reception to help.
One of the best hostels I stayed in all my trips! Very organized, clean with friendly and helpfull staff... Lockers are big enought to put all our stuff and all the rooms are very large to receive people with confort... Rest rooms are clean and have good showers, with separeted cabins and good space... There are large areas to have fun, use internet or just meet other people, the place is really amazing for this... In my room people really respected the silent time, after 23:00 what was important to sleep too... I really recomend it!
I paid 45 us for a single bed in a 10 bed room, with no breakfast included, what is really no cheap for me, but this a problem with the city, ny is very expensive... The localization is also not very close to atractions but there is a metro just one street from the hostel
For a hostel it was really clean and nice
The room smelt extremely stuffy, the free internet was slow and had to be renewed every couple of hours. The hostel is so big that there is quite intimidating to interact and it is also extremely irritating in a big dorm room when people are sleeping in the middle of the day when you want to get stuff ready - as irritating as it is when people want to chat at 12am. The comedy show is free for a reason, but it got me sleepy enough to sleep through the loud snorer.
What I most liked was the organisation, cleanliness and the tours during day and night that they offer for free.
I did not like the absence of fresh air in the rooms and the smell of the products they use their to clean.
It was very nice in every aspectt. Positive.
the staff were exellent, happy to help you 24/7 and always positive.
you can only stay at a location for up to 14days, I feel it should be extended to 21 days. I was in NYC for 31/2 weeks and was disappointed I couldnt stay at HI for my whole trip. A few of the rooms have older bunkbeds that creak alot, so if someone gets up in the night it wakes everyone up. Updating these rooms would make the stay more comfortable.
I hadn't stayed at a youth hostel for 50 years until I came to New York last year. We (my wife and I) came back this year. That tells tyhe story. We were impressed, above all by the staff who cope with people of all ages, most classes and many nationalities with patience, humour and politeness. They were top rate, much better, I'd have to say than some hotel staff we met on the same trip to Canada and the USA. The facilities are excellent and if it hadn't been for the street noises coming from outside late into the night it would have been perfect. But, hey, whaddya expect, that's Noo York and that's why people come and come back. So I'm giving you a score of 99%, the two guys shouting mutha etc at each other across the street for 10 minutes as we left get -1%.
Like I said a touch noisy in the evenings but if you've been out in New York since 8am pounding those hard pavements and climbing and eating and sightseeing and buying and listening in to conversations we should have been tired enough to sleep through earthquakes so i guess it's our fault for not going out till 3am anyway!
good location. clean and tidy. under good supervision/
they did not give me sufficient information as that there are 10 mates in the dorm. they did not inform me that there are premium rooms . they used to interrupt in thr middle of the night and make arrangement that should have been waited till the following morninig.
I liked so much the hostel, Location was amazing and everything there, But the Staff (FrontDesk specially) was not so friendly!!
